Curating Synergy to Bring Accessible Healthcare to Fijians

Since 2022, the partnership between Health Care (Fiji) Pte Ltd, trading as Aspen Medical, and MIOT International has been transforming access to world-class cardiac care in Fiji. In just three years, a dedicated 35-member MIOT specialist team stationed at Lautoka Hospital has performed over 300 life-saving open-heart surgeries and angiograms, touching the lives of more than 500 Fijians. MIOT Pacific Medical also plays a key role in this mission, delivering high-quality healthcare services to the people of Fiji and strengthening access to specialist care across the country.

These achievements have been made possible through a shared commitment to excellence. Aspen Medical has outfitted Lautoka Hospital with the finest technology, including a state-of-the-art Philips Cath Lab, ultra-modern operating theatres, and ICUs specially designed for cardiac patients — all supported by MIOT’s renowned cardiothoracic expertise and global healthcare experience.

The results from this partnership speak for themselves: every successful procedure is a life extended, a family kept whole, and a patient returning home with renewed hope. Since May 2025 alone, the new Cath Lab has enabled 190 angiograms, further cementing Fiji’s ability to deliver advanced cardiac interventions locally, reducing the need for costly overseas travel.

MIOT’s track record of medical innovation is extensive. In Chennai, recent advancements include South India’s first-ever rehab centre (2022), the region’s most modern cone-beam CT bi-plane cath lab for endovascular services, intraoperative CT for enhanced neurosurgical safety, robotic surgery for cancer patients, and zero-error robot-assisted joint replacement. MIOT is also the first and only hospital in India to be internationally accredited for endovascular oncology interventions, enabling rapid recovery with minimal side effects.

Beyond India, MIOT operates leading medical facilities in similar geographies, including a four-storey ambulatory surgery unit in Seychelles, advanced stroke rehabilitation in Mauritius, and a comprehensive rehab centre in the Maldives serving elderly patients, post-surgical cases, and children with special needs.

The vision for the future is ambitious and clear: to broaden the range of procedures offered, including minimally invasive cardiac surgeries, advanced heart valve repairs, and more complex interventions. There are also plans to train and equip local surgeons, anaesthetists, perfusionists, and nurses — building toward a fully Fiji-led cardiac programme — while continuing to invest in cutting-edge equipment, imaging technology, and ICU facilities.

Additionally, plans are underway to introduce daycare services in Nadi through MIOT Pacific Medical, offering dentistry, ophthalmology, and ENT, along with endovascular interventions in urology, gynaecology, orthopaedics, and eventually cardiology in Nasole, Suva.

This collaboration is more than a professional agreement; it is a promise that no one in Fiji or the Pacific should have to leave their home to access life-saving cardiac and specialist care. It is a shared mission to set new benchmarks for healthcare in the region. Together, MIOT and Aspen Medical will continue to grow this partnership from strength to strength — not only saving lives but redefining what is possible for healthcare in Fiji and beyond.
